Metro 2
The standardized data format furnishers use to report consumer credit data to bureaus.
Metro 2 is the standardized data format that all major U.S. furnishers use to report consumer credit data to the three credit bureaus. It defines the field structure for tradeline updates: status codes, balance reporting, payment history strings, account-type codes, and date fields like the DOFD.
Most credit-reporting errors are Metro 2 coding errors. Common: status code 1 (30 days late) reported when the consumer paid on time; status mismatched against balance (paid-off account still showing adverse status); DOFD field reset when an account was reopened.
