Mixed File
A credit report that has been incorrectly merged with another consumer's file.
A mixed file occurs when a credit bureau's matching algorithm incorrectly merges two consumers' credit data — typically because of similar names, similar addresses, or partially-overlapping SSNs.
Spotting a mixed file: addresses you never lived at; employers you never worked for; tradelines you don't recognize. Disputing under FCRA §611 with documentation typically resolves it, sometimes after multiple rounds.
